Russian hackers target Nato,Ukraine using zero-day exploit


Russian hackers have exploited a bug in Microsoft Windows operating system and targeting computer used by Nato, The European Union, Ukraine and the companies in energy and telecommunications sectors,according to security firm iSight.
The five year cyberspionage campaign is still going on,according to iSight, which dubbed the operation "Sandworm Team" bbecause it found references to the "Dune" science fiction series in the software code used by the hackers.The firm began monitoring the hackers' activity in late 2013.Stephen Ward (Senior Director of iSight) said "The flaw is present in every Windows operating system from Vista to 8.1,except Windows XP."iSight was not able to determine how successful the hackers might have in obtaining information.

The Windows CVE-2014-4114 vulnerability has been in use since August last year.A Microsoft spokesman said the firm's patch will be released in security bulletin MS14-060.
