Facebook Inc. has launched new tool which lets users to know whether your friends or relatives are safe or not during disaster.
The tool name Safety Check will soon be available globally to over 1.30 billion Facebook user on computer and mobile devices.
Facebook determines location from cities listed in profile, last location from the Nearby Friends feature or the city you are connecting and using Internet by tracing IP address.If a Facebook user is safe he/she simply click "I'm Safe", which will push a notification and news feed story will be generated automatically.
Facebook safety check has been created after the earthquake and tsunami took place in Japan.Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg launched this service in Japan,a country which is still recovering from 2011 disaster.
"Our engineers in Japan took the first step toward creating a product to improve the experience of reconnecting after disaster", said Naomi Gleit(Vice President of Product Management at Facebook).
