The social networking site,Facebook has launched its new way to access Facebook using onion address specially designed for tor users that works with SSL,without disclosing their true location.
Tor browser is an open source project launched in 2002,that is specially made to increase the anonymity on the Internet by sharing your IP address and your location.

People who have Tor enabled browser can access Facebook via https://facebookcorewwwi.onion/.Hidden services accessed through the Tor network and website to remain anonymous.
Note that link mention above will work on tor enabled browser only.

"Facebook onion address provides a way to access Facebook through Tor without losing the cryptographic protections provided by the Tor cloud."said Alec Muffett, Software engineer at Facebook.

"The idea is that the Facebook onion address connects you to Facebook's core WWW infrastructure and it reflects one benefit of accessing Facebook this way:that it provides end-to-end communication, from your browser directly into a Facebook datacentre."said Alec.

In 2013,Facebook assured Tor users that company would work with Tor services for possible solution. Now in 2014 Facebook launched onion address for its Tor users. This move is good for those who want to hide their identity.

Runa Sandvik, who was consulted by Facebook on the project and who previously worked with Tor Project, tweeted "The launch of Facebook Tor hidden service also marks that first time a CA (Certificate Authority) has issued a legitimate SSL certificate for onion address."

  1. Couldn't Facebook use this to record exit nodes and assume ties with the FB account you logged into, which itself may have previous login-location data. Over time, with substantial users, would allow FB to partially map users. I don't think Facebooks all that big on honest privacy.
